Founded in 1990 as a contract medical device manufacturer, Alphatec Spine has transformed itself into a leading independent medical device company in both North America and Japan. The change began in March of 2005 when Alphatec was acquired by a group of investors led by the New York private equity firm HealthpointCapital LLC. The acquisition brought an infusion of capital and a heightened commitment to physician relationships and services.

 Later in 2005, the company enhanced its product line by acquiring Cortek, a developer and seller of allograft implants for spinal fusion. In June of 2006, Alphatec Holdings, Inc., the parent corporation of Alphatec Spine, completed the initial public offering and the company stock shares currently trade on the NASDAQ Global Market under the symbol "ATEC."
